INRAE ​​is an EPST, a public scientific and technological establishment created on January 1, 2020 and resulting from the merger of Inra, the National Institute for Agricultural Research and Irstea, the National Institute for Research in Science and Technology for the Environment and 'Agriculture. It is under the joint supervision of the ministries in charge of Research, Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI) and that in charge of Agriculture and Food (MAA). It develops important collaborations with the ministry in charge of the ecological and solidarity transition (MTES) according to dedicated framework agreements.

INRAE ​​is a major player in research and innovation. As an applied research institute, it brings together a community of 12,000 people across 268 research, service, and experimentation units spread across 18 sites in France. The institute is among the world's leading research organizations in agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences, and ecology and the environment. It is the world's leading research organization specializing in the entire "agriculture-food-environment" system. INRAE's ambition is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to meet major global challenges. Faced with population growth, climate change, resource scarcity, and biodiversity loss, the institute develops solutions for high-performing agriculture, quality food, and the sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.
